Introduction:
It is quite difficult to combat the
existing the piracy. It is quite complicated to determine that is copying the
other person or individual creation, is violating the country law or not. It’s
been existed like incurable disease. Even people do not want to know either.
Nowadays, Internet and network connection
also contribute to the piracy. Because, everyone
are using the internet and networks purposed for sharing the information. It
has been contributed to the piracy in which other person can just easily to
copy somebody works. It can use it immediately or just modifies or changes few
things from it and print accordingly. Therefore, it is all depending on each of
us who are involved in and who is perceived it, and of course with their-own
arguments.
However, as a computing professional,
we should always bear in mind that, we have a moral responsibility to
contribute to the best of the society whereas we are all live in.
The research told us that, in the worldwide,
pirate figures of losses are around billions of billions of the dollars from the
software industries and computers companies. In other hand, the piracies also
help the poor people to have the same access of the information without have to
pay any cents. High prices and technology also contribute to the existing of
the piracy.
In
Timor-Leste are quite a lot of computer shops that selling a piracy copies of software,
videos, and games. There is still lack of having a proper law for counter the
piracy. However, it says in the Timor-Leste’s constitution that, if there is
not exist in law can be use the international law: “The legal system
of East Timor shall adopt the general or customary principles of international
law,” (Timor-Leste
Constitution, 2002).
The advantages: One of advantages of
piracy is that, it’s cheaper than the original product price. The third world
countries or the development countries can afford to buy them or even have them
for free. For instance, to buy an original CD music may cost you about couple
hundred of the dollars, it can be freely downloaded from internet and copy them
onto blank CDs. You can also select and downloaded your favorite songs which
are more than ten with their respective authors and singers, and copied in to
one single CD without any cost than you have to buy a multiple CDs with only limited
songs and cost you around twenty dollars.
Disadvantages: The developers, industries,
and companies who invest their time and money are going to lose their profit or
income. In this sense, companies most probably will be downsizing their office.
Additionally, as a consequence, the employee will be losing their job and the opportunities.
Moreover, it is maybe come to the instability of the country. The piracy has no
quality and it is not under control. Therefore, it maybe will bring a bugs or backdoors
where the virus can be coming into the system and attack the Personal Computer
(PC). There are no technical specification and supports. The pirates at the end
maybe go jail.
Conclusion: By decriminalizing the
piracy, we are contributing to the society welfare. The developers can creation
lot of the jobs. These will be contributing to nation stability in term of
peace and security of the country. The software quality is high, have technical
documentation and support for updating new versions. Additionally, it prevents
the virus infections. The Industries, institutions, organizations, and even companies
have to educate and inform to the public that, who are doing the piracy
activities are illegal and will be processed in court. The developer,
organization, and government have to work site by site in order to protect the
intellectual property.
