Statement of Ethics

By Raul Bernardino
I don’t think that we should have formal statement like other professional bodies does. What do we need is to have a commitment for doing well, as it is in the scope and plan. Additionally, we should be doing a necessary assessments and several testing before and after to the impacts of the implementation of computing professional ideas and concepts toward to the individuals or societies.  With this commitment and through this path, the computing professional has minimized the risks of the implications to the society.
Why is that, it is because in my person point of views, we just can’t regulate the computing professionals. First all, the issue is computing professional has lot focuses and they are totally deferent from any other professionals. The computing professional may be concentrate in the area of hardware technology and in other hand several of computing professionals are concentrating in the software technology which is more in the development area and complex to determine.
For this reason that I have stated above, I will be going with the statement of Plato which lecture had quoted as well.
Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws. Plato (427-347 B.C.)

As a professional, we have a moral responsibility to contribute for the best to the society in whichever situation that we as computing professionals are in and whatever area that we are assigned to do the task. We have right or power to access an individual data in our own territory. However, we have no right to disclose them without permission from the owner itself. What we have to do, is protect those data to not publically available.

In modern ethical theory is based on the best practice and high utilitarian approach. The outcomes are the measure of the morality and pleasure principle rules much of this strand of thought. (Adams & Mccrindle, 2008). By using this principle, the concepts of better qualities of life have been introduced in which to improve technologies for the sake of individuals or societies.

There are several common norms in the society that can be adopted and as a part of computing professional group.  For instance: always respect to other employee, individuals, other culture, ethnics etc. Keep high value of the culture. However, not all values are in one country same as the other. In other words not all norms are complying with the countries. Keep and lift up your reputation. Always be honest and be truthful person.
